Recommended Equipment (GIRLS)
 Required & recommended Equipment
Eye wear Wire framed eye guards that meet ASTM lacrosse standards.
We don’t recommend plastic goggles – they fog, get dirty).
Mouth guard Must be a colored mouth guard, Referees will be checking for presence, color and condition.
We recommend that players have a spare mouth guard in their bags
Cleats Cleats will be needed for practice and games.  We play the entire season in mud!  Do not wear metal cleats.  (There is no requirement about toe cleats line there is in soccer).
Stick Purchase a women’s lacrosse stick by a good brand (deBeer, STX, Brine, etc) from Dicks, Play It Again Sports or Velocity  Lacrosse.
The minimum stick length is set by rule.  Most sticks, when purchased are pretty long.  when the butt of the stick is placed in the player's armpit, the player's fingers should be close to the base of the stick head.  If you are unsure, buy it too long.  The coaches will cut them down at practice.
We recommend:
bullet Consider a stick with a yellow head.  It hides the yellow ball and make is harder to protect against a shot.  This is not critical at the Youth level, but it helps.
bullet Sticks should have grip tape on them.  Using trainers' tape, wrap the bottom 6-12 inches of the stick.  Place a second wrap on the stick about 6" down from the head.  These mark the normal hand positions for the player.  If you are unsure, the coaches will tape sticks at practices.
bullet Adjust the pocket.  Loosen the strings in the pocket and loosen the bottom.  A looser pocket helps keep control of the ball while catching and cradling.  A LAX ball placed in the pocket should barely clear the top of the pocket.  When a  referee runs her hand over the pocket frame, she MUST barely touch the ball.  If you are unsure, coaches can adjust pockets at practice.
bullet When your stick gets muddy, rinse it off at home.  Fill a bucket with warm water and dunk the stick a few times.  Mud stiffens the pocket and makes it harder to control the ball.
Clothing Wear layers and dress warmly.  The Lacrosse season starts out cold (and muddy), moves to rainy (and muddy) and ends up warm (and muddy).  Dress for practice to be standing in cold, wet mud for 90 minutes or more.  Consider wool or other outdoor socks to keep your feet warm while wet.
For games, players will wear uniforms consisting of jerseys & kilts. In the early games ( cold & muddy), long sleeves or leggings can be worn.  If so, any visible clothing must either be white, black, grey or Mason green.  No prints or patterns are allowed.
Gloves
(recommended)
Lacrosse or baseball batting gloves which have a grip surface…the lacrosse gloves have some padding on the outside. (No knit winter gloves)

Lotion
(recommended)
In the early cold & wet, wind burn is a possibility. Consider something to protect the skin if the weather is bad.  Sun tan lotion works well.

Lacrosse Balls Buy a few lax balls for home practice.  The girls game is played with yellow balls, but any can be used for practicing.  You should have at least 2 or 3 to play catch, practice cradling etc.  If you are practicing shooting, 'more is better'.  A big pile of balls allows more shooting and less chasing.
DO NOT BRING BALLS TO PRACTICE.  We will provide balls at practice. They will get mixed win with the regular balls and we'll spend a bunch of time trying to get yours back.

Getting Home
without Mud
Players will be muddy up to their ankles.  Some players ( and you know who you are) end up muddy up to their waist.  I recommend a couple of things to keep the get home and leave some of the mud on the field ( for next practice)
bullet Throw clean sneakers in a plastic grocery bag the car.  After practice, dump the muddy socks & cleats in the bag and wear your clean shoes home.
bullet The bottom of your sweats will be muddy. Roll them up and trap the mud.  Either that, or bring a fresh set of sweat pants to place over the muddy ones.
bullet Keep an old sheet or blanket in the car.  One day, your player will be 'Queen of the Mud'.  Wrap her up and take her home.
